San Francisco: The City That Waits To Die
First: apologies for the muting of the opening soundtrack and the premature cut off of the last two minutes of this programme. This was due to a RUclips automated edit removing copyright marked music.Nevertheless I hope you enjoy this ground breaking and controversial documentary made by the BBC in 1970 about San Francisco. It pointed out that city planners were ignoring warnings from scientists and erecting key public buildings on the Bay Area's numerous faults. The programme was even banned from broadcast for a time in the Bay Area. However, the programme makers delivered a remarkable public service by warning of the dangers, and it did lead to action. Apologies for the poor quality of ...

Apologies for the poor quality but this was captured from a 1994 VHS recording of a terrestrial TV broadcast! The event was significant in that it was performed in July 1994 in Cardiff, Capital City of Wales, before Prince Charles on the 25th anniversary of his investiture as Prince of Wales. My connection? I had the privilege of being one of the chorus members. An unforgettable experience. The...
Volcano! Surtsey and Heimaey

A fascinating extract from the ITV documentary "Savage Earth" first broadcast in the 1990s. Surtsey was the island born from an underwater volcanic eruption off the south coast of Iceland in 1963. Heimaey one of the Westmann islands, south of Iceland, whose inhabitants were awoken one night in 1973 to find its volcano had burst into life. The townsfolk fought the advancing lava with high pressu...

Wales from the air conclusion

A final word from English journalist Renee Cutforth is the last instalment of this innovative BBC documentary from the late 1960s. Most notable about it is the beautiful choral rendition you hear in the background of one of the most well loved Welsh folk songs Dafydd y Garreg Wen (David of the White Rock). It is so rare to find such pure renditions of this piece now.

The legend of Glyndwr part 7

Henry IV gradually and patiently reasserts his authority over Wales and Glyndwr and his supporters find themselves losing a war of attrition. Worst of all for Glyndwr, his base at Harlech Castle is captured. His ally Mortimer is killed and Glyndwr's family are captured, never to be heard of again. Glyndwr is now reduced to the status of a homeless outlaw, not surrendering and still able to laun...

Glyndwr convenes a Parliament in the Welsh town of Machynlleth, with delegates from across Wales, and emissaries from Scotland, France and Castille as observers. This Parliament considers the future of an independent Wales, which would have its own church, universities and laws, based on the 10th century Welsh laws of the Welsh Prince Hywel Dda (Hywel the Good). These included rights of women t...

Following his victories on the field, prominent English families opposed to King Henry IV seek alliances with Glyndwr. This leads to mixed fortunes but the pinnacle of Glyndwr's campaign is reached with the capture and occupation of Harlech Castle, where he starts to plan for an independent Wales.
The legend of Glyndwr part 4

The rebellion in Wales takes a much more dramatic turn as Owain and his men launch the first of a series of major battles against the English forces - all of which they win dramatically despite being heavily outnumbered, thanks to their tactics and the renowned skills of the Welsh with the longbow. This moves from being an annoying rebellion in the western flank of Britain to creating a mood of...

Glyndwr has declared himself Prince of Wales, in defiance of King Henry IV of England, who has declared his own son (the future King Henry V)Prince of Wales (as had been the custom since the conquest of Wales by King Edward I). This infuriates the King, but the situation soon becomes serious when the "September Rampage" begins - destruction of a number of English-occupied towns in North Wales. ...

Far, far more credible an experience than all the modern day ghost hunting video tripe of today’s standards. Just a shame the recording equipment back then wasn’t as good as today’s tech. The modern day ghost hunters, and there’s many hundreds of them on RUclips have driven any possible credibility surrounding the subject deep into the ground due to the nonsense fake trash that gets produced today.

@@grumpygramps1451 Sorry for delay, was to busy never checked. Yes when I was 27 working at STL Laboratory’s in Harlow Geoff was working there in the store’s, he showed a book on Borley Rectory. He new that I was interested in Psychic Phenomena and had experienced a phenomena before. The idea was to see for ourselves wether the entity had truth, all if things were still happening. To cut a long story short the recording ( of which I have the original ). I am not sure how this came to the ear of a BBC film producer/writer of what we were doing in Borley Church and contacted Geoff to listen to the tape for authenticity, he proved that it had not been tampered with. His name was D Densham, not sure on the spelling, and asked if he could accompany us with more more professional equipment. He visited Borley a number of times and on the third visit we stayed locked in the church were a number of things occurred, we felt the entity join us, the atmosphere became extremely cold as it passed through the 3 of us, then something was thrown at us , followed by strange spectacle’s of light, I think I have a tape of this occasion. I would like to mention here that the first set of equipment refused to work although it was checked on entry. The second recorder had it’s tape pulled out. I could go on for weeks about the things going on at Borley over a period of five years, the research we carried out, library’s, Euston University were the Harry Price museum is housed, people, church yards, houses that we visited to find more information about the Bull family, The Forster Family, past occupants of the Rectory. I am 80 years old now although I don’t look it, and still researching, not Borley though, more things did go on at Borley than I have mentioned here, but the visits was not to convince others it was to prove to ourselves , not mention to be shared. In the end Peter Underwood got wind of it, we then visited him at the Ghost club in London, he was interested in what we had achieved. We are mentioned in his book The Ghosts of Borley, you can also Google Roy potter. Hope you enjoy, and I can honestly say there was no pulling of strings behind curtains.

The idea with the harp is great, but a) the girl walking around is a bit irritating, she attracts a bit too much attention, given she is being heard over the other instruments anyway and b) this should really be played with an orchestra harp whether acoustic or electric, with a good wooden sound board and volume for a fine harp sound. I am not happy with the flat, buzzing sound of a small lap harp. The piece itself is great, we are currently playing it with our school orchestra :-D

It was very interesting to see the coronation of King Charles III, and to compare how the ceremonies played out. Despite the coronation of a Queen Consort, and the scaled down military presence, they were almost identical. The only major difference was the number of people present, and the attire worn. The nobility left their coronets at home, and there were 6,000 fewer people in the Abbey. To this day I find it astonishing they fit 8,000 people inside that building for the Queen's coronation. I can understand why they didn't want to build massive risers and balcony booths this time around. God save the Queen! Long Live the King!
